Magic Torch Comics will be starting a new comic club, The Splash Panel, in Greenock Central Library on Saturday 26th October. The group is for 11-15 year olds, and as well as reading and discussing comics, the group will work to develop and create their own comics which will be launched next year.
For further info on how to sign up head to Inverclyde Libraries Online.
The Splash Panel is part of Inverclyde Libraries new Making Waves project, which recieved £25,570 from the Public Library Improvement Fund. The project will help transform local libraries into centres for culture and creativity, offering sessions on art, creative writing, songwriting and comic creation. You can read more about the project here.
There is also an opportunity to shape what other cultural activities you would like to explore at your library on this online survey.
After the first Splash Panel session, we will be popping down to the Oak Mall for Inverclyde Culture Day, part of the Galoshans Festival being run by RIG Arts. We might do some more comics or maybe even some storytelling. Who can say? Certainly, we'll have some of our spooky local comics and books available.
This also seems like the ideal time to remind you to get rehearsing for going your Galoshans by downloading Magic Torch's local adaptation of the play which used to be performed around the houses at Hallowe'en and other winter festivals...
